Play Building Specifics
A VIA representative or a teacher can easily use our PowerPoint presentation to engage students in the topics within the resource, Voices into Action. After a few sessions, students will write their own scripts (which the teacher can grade using our rubric) and then student groups will collaborate to produce a 10-minute script (using and combining the material from their own original scripts). Each group will enact their own script with the help of our FAST representative and/or the teacher. The class will be guided through the basics of acting and staging in order to rehearse and share their play with confidence. No previous acting experience is required.
Public Performance – Voices Into Acting!
The project culminates in a public performance at each participating school in front of an audience (of students from each school, as well as invited schools from their district). The performances will be followed with a conversation about the messages that each play conveyed. The intention is for participants to leave with new insight about oppression and discrimination, along with additional tools to stand up against injustice and to foster more inclusion within their own communities.
